Use a consistent naming system
Choose a naming system and stick with it. You will be accumulating multiple assignments (artifacts) and their corresponding reflections so you will need a consistent approach or you will encounter significant difficulty when adding things to your pages. Students have found that naming things starting with the goal (G) and outcome (O) the assignment or reflection is for helps immensely when putting your pages together. Example: G1O2_NUR 305 paper_artifact; G1O2_NUR 305 paper_reflection
Maintain communication with your faculty advisor
Your faculty advisor will follow you from the beginning to the end of your program and is responsible for evaluating your e-portfolio. As previously stated, your e-portfolio will serve to satisfy the IBON documentation requirement for a summative evaluation; you cannot complete your degree without its successful completion.
You must cover all 16 outcomes
You must have a reflection and assignment for each of the program outcomes (16). A list of signature assignment can be found here. You may use an artifact for more than one outcome. However, you must have an original reflection for each outcome you attach an assignment to. You can track your assignments with this form.
Follow the template
You will be provided a portfolio template in NUR 305: Professional Communication for Nurses. There is a page for each program goal, where you will upload reflections and assignments for each outcome under that goal. There are five outcomes for goal 1; five outcomes for goal 2; three outcomes for goal 3; and three outcomes for goal 4. Please do not alter the template. You will pair assignments with one or two outcomes. Please see videos on the create page of this site.
What assignments should I use?
You should use as many of the signature assignments as possible. However, that does not mean that you cannot use anything else. All core courses and nursing electives have a variety of projects and assignments that demonstrate achievement of one or more program outcomes. You can even use significant initial discussion posts for DQs that fit with an outcome. Bottom line: if you can detail a solid connection, via reflection, between the assignment (or post) and outcome, you can use it.
